Tarmac Driveway After Care Tips in Newark-on-Trent

It’s worth it. A tarmac driveway will last you many years. We don’t intend to sound too directive, but these tips are a must-have to help protect your investment.

1 – Don't drive for more than 2-3 days on freshly laid asphalt.

If it is warm outside, you can leave it for longer before driving on it. Please give us a call if there are any questions regarding a driveway or path made of asphalt.

It is worth noting, however, that driveways are at their weakest during the first year. As the asphalt ages, it will harden and become greyer.

2 – Driveway manoeuvres

Before you turn the steering wheel, be always on the move.

Scuff marks can form on the surface of the vehicle if the wheel is turned while it is stationary. You could cause more damage if you keep causing the same scuff marks.

3 – Avoid 'point loading' or ensure that you distribute the pressure.

Point loads are those that place undue stress on a particular area. A motorbike stand for example puts pressure off the tyres and then passes it through the tiny space of a metal foot. Point loads could also include the feet of ladders or caravans.

If you are unable to do so, the trick is placing a board underneath your feet / standing. This will spread the weight and distribute the pressure more widely.

4 – Make sure to clean up any spills as soon as possible.

You can damage the driveway’s tarmac surface by using oil or detergent. No matter how large or small the spillage may be, don’t forget to clean it up.

You should immediately soak up any liquid – dry sand, cat litter and sawdust all work well. They can also be disposed of easily through household waste.

Any residue can be removed by using a mixture of water and washing up liquid.
